A Brooklyn Day | New York City Photographer
We were in New York last month for a faaaabulous shoot with recording artist/singer-songwriter Lauren Winans. Despite the morning of the shoot bringing us torrential downpours and more rain than I could appreciate, the afternoon ended up being lovely & sunny; and after a midday event in Brooklyn, we decided to hit the streets for a highly walkable afternoon.
Most of our time was spent in DUMBO, walking around the cobblestone streets and drinking in the sites around both the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges. This area is one of my favorites in the States for a number of reasons — the brick, the restaurants, the views, the energy — and I could spend all day there. Alas, we only had a few hours, so we hit the subway so our day trek could include some of Manhattan as well. Strolls criss-crossing throughout Park, Madison, and 5th Avenues involved a lot of crowds, tourists, shops, and skyscrapers… and I loved every moment of it.
V always says he “hates” New York… and, yet, when we’re there, he’s always pushing to see more, walk further, stop for photos, and fervently explore explore explore. I’m happy to oblige. I’m not sure if it’s because we live in the mountains and rarely get anywhere urban, or because it’s flat and I can walk forever (even carrying a 40lb camera bag), or the sites are so iconic (it’s NEW YORK!), but I love our visits to the Big Apple (check out photos from one of our last visits here). There’s a romance and hope and stamina about it — it sucks me in, inspiring me and engaging me — it’s just palpable. I can’t wait to go back.
