This is Part 2 of my Yoga: Vinyassa shoot.  [Please check out the awesomeness of Part 1 here!]

After sweltering in the 100 degree heat of the studio part of our shoot, heading out to the Colorado Monument sounded like a break.  Except for the ginormous storm that hit as we were making our way to the tops of the 7,000ft cliffs.  The wind was battering the car, and I wondered how on earth we were going to set up a softbox without having it blow away into the high desert.  Not to mention rain being bad for the gear.  Oh, and of course, Tessa probably didn’t want to stand cliffside with gusts of wind threatening her safety, drops of water hitting her like schrapnel.

When we got to the trailhead, V, Tess, & I hollered at each other from our respective cars, windows rolled down while we tried to guess the weather’s next step.  “I say we wait it out,” I said, more confidently than I felt.  And then… the clouds parted, a hint of sunlight burst through, and the wind calmed.  We headed out for our short walk to the site… and an honest-to-god RAINBOW lit the sky.  “Get out there, Tess!!!” I called, and we started shooting, just like that, no direction, no guidance, no plan.

Tess flowed through her poses effortlessly, and all I had to do was hit the shutter button.  And, again, her patience was overwhelming.  Sometimes, when you’re photographing, you get so wrapped up in the light, the moment, and the fluidity that you forget a real human being is attached to the shot — someone that gets tired holding wildly exhausting poses for minutes at a time!  But Tess never faltered, and I think the shots (and Tess herself) look beautiful.
