Let It Go | Bryce Johnson Visuals
Last month, my friend Bryce called me up.
“I’m shooting another video Thursday with Alex Boye — this time at the Midway Ice Castles. You could come and take some photos, if you like.”
“We’re supposed to leave for our cross country drive on Wednesday. Bummed to miss it.”
“Okay.”
Woops.
Mental note: next time Bryce asks me to be ANYWHERE for ANYTHING, make it happen.
The little filming opportunity I missed has turned into an international phenomenon. Bryce’s video for Let It Go, recorded by Alex Boye, Lexi Walker, and the One Voice Children’s Choir, had millions (literally) of views its first day on youtube and, as of today (March 13), has nearly 26 million views and 24,000 comments. Lexi Walker’s fame sky rocketed subsequently and she has since performed the song on Good Morning America and the Queen Latifah show.
I know Lexi and Alex are getting tremendous kudos for their work (well deserved, for sure), but I’d like to dedicate this post to giving Bryce an enormous shout out for delivering, yet again, an incredible piece of work. Behind the scenes coverage of the shoot (like this one) gives me goosebumps…. and not because Lexi’s voice is magic but because that guy with the backward hat working the camera is someone I consider a dear friend and stand-up individual.
I’ve written about Bryce’s talent over and over again (like here, when I caught some behind-the-scenes photos at another Boye shoot) and I can’t imagine I’ll ever stop. I simply adore collaborating with him. He’s talented beyond words in both photography and film. But, more than any of that professional stuff is the fact that Bryce’s kindness, generosity, integrity, and sweetness — a general goodness — resonates long after you’ve spent time with him. He’s also non-stop energetic (he does all kinds of crazy athletic stuff like climbing and backcountry downhill skiing) and passionate as hell about all his work. His latest undertaking is founding Haute Attitude, an online retail shop for which he is the ultimate visionary, acting as buyer, designer, project manager, brander, photographer, writer, publicist, and salesperson (phew). I’m not even sure how he has the time to be a husband & father, and yet he still manages to be amazing at those jobs as well. His wife Laura is equally as wonderful, and their work relationship is much like me & V’s (that’s them, with Alex & Lexi at the 1 minute mark) so it’s fun for us to see another couple navigating the visual media realm together.
Huge hugs to you both!
