We thought we’d planned for everything.  We prepped at The Lodge at Stillwater, a wonderful hair & makeup artist (Carley Throgmorton) came up from Salt Lake City, my favorite stylist Emily White from Haute Hostess stopped in for a consult (and a champagne drop off), and we coordinated to shoot at the iconic White Barn (McPolin Barn) during the magic hour.  Perfect, right?

Who could have predicted snow?! When it was nearly MAY?!?!  When 30 degree temperatures, snowflakes, dark skies, and ginormous winds surrounded us as we departed our cars, I looked at the couple expectantly… and I was met with nothing but smiles and shrugs.  They set out toward the property, holding hands and wearing their happiness like a cozy cloak.

That these two are “troopers” minimizes all the unique adjectives I could use to describe them as I’ve gotten to know them over the past six months.  They are up for anything, always with a fantastic demeanor, even if they were up at 3am on the east coast to catch an early morning flight to SLC for wedding meetings at Sundance or photography sessions in Park City.  I’ve never for a second seen them acknowledge that they might be tired or overwhelmed.  Instead, they just look to one another with a sigh or a laugh as they tackle things together.

This shoot was no different.  He brushed her hair out of her face when the wind gusted it into her eyes; she held out her goose-bumped arms for him to warm up when a chill hit her.  They met this frosty challenge, together with charming grins, as Mother Nature tossed them a curveball.  As a result of their light-heartedness and easy humor, we were able to get beautiful, loving photos of a couple that defines *partnership*.

Oh, and a herd of elk had materialized nearby toward the end of the shoot — that’s got to be a blessing of sorts, right?
