Park City Portrait Photography | Robyn Cage
I met Robyn Cage two years ago, when we were both working a family reunion. While I clicked away at my shutter, she clicked away at her ivories. She was the entertainment: a bluesy, melodic, resonating talent at her keyboard, putting her own deliciously enchanting spin on cover songs. With her classically trained voice, firey hair, and captivating eyes, well, it was hard to pay attention to my job since I wanted to set up camp in front of her & hear every tune escape her lips.
Fast forward to last month, when Robyn called about booking me for some portrait photography. She’s been a busy lady. She’s been in LA and NYC. She’s been playing festivals and on television. And, probably most notably, she’s been writing songs and recording an album with Grammy-winning producers. An album that’s dropping soon — an album I got to preview before the shoot and MAN am I hooked (you can already download Burning Now, which I’ve also played 77 times according to my iTunes — CLICK HERE TO GRAB IT YOURSELVES!).
My goal in this shoot? To convey the intimacy and confidence that I hear in her voice & lyrics. Some of the songs are playful, ironic, large, so I also wanted to get some energy in there — a little joy, exuberance. But, also… her haunt’s gotta be in there. That fullness, sensuality, captivation.
Thank you, Robyn, for the chance to try to visually channel your aural flair. (And a thanks to Amy DeVore for her mad MUAH styling… and to Bryce Johnson for his awesomeness!!).
