PUBLISHING :: Visual Artistry Magazine

I’ve written several times about publishing (such as here and here and here), and I believe that publishing your photos is an important aspect of one’s photography business in order to get your work in front of the widest audience possible.

Shooting to publish is also a huge challenge.  You must design a concept, gather the right team for the work (model, hair, makeup, assistants), choose a location, and then do your best on set to capture your vision for the idea.  These are unpaid shoots, and since no one wants to waste their time, you’ve got to make the experience worthy of the talent you assemble.

Publishing China Doll

I was blessed to work with several amazing individuals on this shoot, which was published in Visual Artistry Magazine‘s New Years issue.  I’ve photographed Amy before (i.e., here and here) and her energy is transcendent to me.  I just love how +alive+ she makes me feel as a shooter.  Makeup artist Abigail Steele is a force, renowned for her wealth of professional experiences, and hair stylist Mary Beth Longmore was a total sweetheart & equally generous with her time & skills.  And, wow!, the farm on which we shot these images was a playground for any photographer.  Companies such as L.L. Bean have photographed catalogs here, and it’s no wonder why when you take in the multiple barns, the silo, the animals, and the vintage cars on the property.  Gorgeous.

Thank you all for your contributions to special projects!
