TGIF :: Sundance Film Festival 2014

TGIF :: It’s Friday.  Get fired up.

Sundance starts next week.  And I’m freaking out.

I’m so, so thrilled to announce that I’ll be photographing for Salt Lake magazine, so I’ll be running around town shooting red carpets, film premieres, and super cool panels that call like sirens to the hundreds of press that flood Park City for the ten days our mountain town becomes a phenomenon.

Private events, social lounges, and editorial shoots are also on my agenda.  As such, we’ve been preparing for weeks for completely varying styles of shooting.  We need to be able to walk into an event fully loaded with our Mark 5Ds, appropriate lenses (usually conservative zooms, like 24-70mm and/or 24-105, and beauties like the 50mm 1.2 for low-light details), on-camera speedlites, flash battery packs, and occasionally a triggered off-camera speedlite set up on a stand in a corner of the room.  Studio work brings an entirely different set of complications: soft boxes, umbrellas, beauty dishes, ringflashes, blackdrops, a handful of stands, and SPACE.  Sometimes a booking will entail event AND studio photography, such as a client that wants both editorial and behind the scenes, or candid & atmosphere coverage as well as a step & repeat or Glam Cam.

Usually, for me & V, it all breaks down to us shoving a couple hundred pounds of bulky, cumbersome gear into our car and figuring out how to unload the stuff once we’ve located where we’re going.

Regardless, we’re excited.  And ready.  [And anxious].
