It’s Friday. Get fired up.
As part of our New England adventure, V & I hit up Boston yesterday. I have a few photo shoots there this weekend, but yesterday was simply to do a walking tour and drop in on a friend from college at her Busy and Important Law Firm in Government Center.
Oh, I’d mapped out my route to showcase my favorite city spots to V. We’d park near the Four Seasons and begin by crossing over the bottom of Newbury Street to the Public Gardens (maybe point out the Cheers bar!) and ramble along the Boston Common up to Beacon Hill. After checking out Government Center, we’d explore the tourist-laden Faneuil Hall area, munching on Quincy Market goodies, nibbling on Oyster House fare, and glancing at chic storefronts. The North End would be next (cannolis, pizza, and espressos, oh my!) and, then, a hand-holding saunter-fest along Long and Rowes Wharves.
I love walking along the Charles, all the way from the Museum of Science/Science Park, beside Storrow Drive, to the Hatch Shell and Esplanade areas. So we’d do that, for sure, and then meander up Marlborough and Commonwealth Streets, stopping at the top of Newbury for some JP Licks before popping by the Berklee School of Music area and Fenway Park. And then, after trekking down Boylston and grabbing the car, we’d drive cross Mass Ave over to Cambridge, where we’d pass the MIT campus en route to Central and Harvard Squares. Ahhh what a day.
Well, 99% of that didn’t happen. I hadn’t considered two things: a) we were driving down from Portland & had to find parking, so roundtrip that cost us 4+ hours of the day and b) it was frigidly, drearily, horribly cold. We saw my friend in her historic Downtown office, went for Regina Pizza… and that was it. Effectively making yesterday the most expensive pizza run in the history of man.
Entirely worth it?! You bet. Seeing Sara was awesome, and even if our entire goal in driving out from Utah was to eat at Regina’s, it’d still be worth it. 🙂
Anyhoo, here’s a snap of V in the Government Center area. And Boston — we’ll be coming back for more of you this weekend!
