Tupelo | Park City Restaurants
I got a very pleasant surprise in my inbox a couple of weeks ago: an invitation to the Open House Reception of Park City’s hottest new restaurant, Tupelo.
Park City’s newest fine dining restaurant is the culmination of one chef’s relentless exploration of food terroir. Young and ambitious, executive chef/owner Matt Harris learned to cook and rose to top chef in a few impressive culinary empires (Jean Georges Vongerichten, Kevin Rathbun, Pano Karatossos). He then embarked on a mission: visiting local producers across the country and around the globe: farmers to fisherfolk, ranchers to cheesemongers. He waded waters, tromped muddy fields, and wrestled with pigs like a true farmhand—all in pursuit of the very best the earth and oceans had to offer. His adventures formed the foundation for tupelo, and the rich, luminous stories underlying every dish.
V & I were *ready* to be there. It’s exciting to be included in such an event, and it’s even more exciting to explore the culinary genius of a talented local chef and his team (including his wife & partner, ‘tiger mom’ [love] Maggie Alvarez). Oh, and when I found out that they have an in-house pastry chef — a British woman that’s lived around the globe and previously worked as a private chef in Deer Valley — that handcrafts madeleines and macarons? Yeah, I was totally sold.
An enormous bonus to the tasty food and welcoming ambiance is the design of the property. I love love love the honey-soft lighting, the industrial-cum-mountain-rustic decor, and the unique installations, each distinctive touch providing its own wow-factor.
Anyway, we had a great time at the reception last night, and running into a bunch of friends we didn’t realize were going to be there, too, was a blast. Suffice it to say that I’m allllllll over Tupelo.
