Sundance Food Photography | Zoom

We shot Zoom’s summer menu a few months ago and loved every minute of it.  Shooting their winter menu was just as fun.  Ohhhhhhh food photography.  Happy happy joy joy.

See, our shoots have been timed with the semi-annual staff training & tasting, so the restaurant is full of tens of staff members, each eagerly, enthusiastically, hungrily awaiting their sample of every decadent dish.  It’s fun to watch multiple versions of the dishes appear one by one for everyone’s fork, complete with narration about the ingredients, the inspiration, and the serving instructions.  So, while I’m establishing the lighting for each shot, one of my ears is bent toward the general manager or head chef answering questions about where the pasta comes from (handmade in SLC), if the salmon is farmed (of course not), or whether the pastries are crafted in-house (everything is, including the ice creams!).  It’s probably my most educational shoot!

So, yes, I’m learning on set.  But I’m also bowled over by the food.  When I tried the filet mignon, I thought I was in heaven… until I sliced off a bite of the pork chop and was totally awed.  Holy moly.  And I don’t have enough adjectives in my arsenal to describe the desserts.  So incredible.
