Engagement Photographer | Utah
It’s Friday. Get fired up.
I’m finalizing an engagement shoot on this lovely, rainy Friday, and it’s the perfect way to spend my day.
I think doing engagement photography with your hired wedding photographer (or to test out a wedding photographer you’d like to use) is such a fantastic idea. In fact, I highly recommend it. An engagement (or Save the Date, or boudoir — some type of ‘pre-wedding’ shoot) is included in my wedding package, and I use the time to help couples prepare for working with me on their Day. The shoot I’m editing now was taken two days before the wedding; more often, the engagement shoot is many months before the wedding. Either way, though, it serves a huge purpose: it’s an ice-breaker between me & you. As much as we may email or talk on the phone before your wedding — even if we’re friends or you’ve known me for years — me holding a camera pointed in your direction is going to feel a little strange at first, and a pre-wedding shoot is a great way for us to get familiar, together, with me photographing you. A ‘test run,’ as one client recently put it.
How do we communicate when I’m shooting? Do you want me to guide you, or do you want me out of sight? Do you want posing suggestions or should I go with the flow? Do you want to try out a few ideas you’ve seen on Pinterest to see how we’ll compose & angle the shots? How does your trial-run makeup look on camera? Is your fiance comfortable in front of a lens or does he need a little warming up? These questions — and more — can be addressed with your engagement photographer so that you have one less concern on your Day.
