Sean Diediker | Medicine Man
Artist Sean Diediker is a big deal. Reknown as a ‘painter’s painter,’ his work has been commissioned by the Obama administration and received attention from several news outlets, including NBC, CBS, Fox News, and the BBC. Oh, and, perhaps most notably: his work is awesome. Striking, expressive, clever, and meaningful, Sean’s paintings reveal to me a sensitivity to the world around him that always inspires and arouses curiosity.
I met Sean last year when I was photographing this New York City unveiling of another of his gorgeous pieces, and I’ve been vicariously drooling over his career ever since (he’s positively captivating on social media — I encourage you to follow him on Facebook). He is always always always writing something beautiful, traveling somewhere incredible, making you think about relationships & connections & experiences, and, of course, crafting something amazing.
Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending his latest unveiling; I had the even greater pleasure of capturing the event by request of the artist himself. I asked Darryl Dobson to join me & V and the three of us caught the Big Reveal of… Medicine Man. Held at the Blue Poblano in Salt Lake City, there was enthusiasm, anticipation, interesting people, and a real medicine man in attendance to bless the unveiling, the piece, and the artist himself. Live music accompanied the tequila & tacos, and the pièce de résistance, Diediker’s limited edition Medicine Man, nearly sold out. Art critic Ehren E. Clark notes about the work, “To paint such a noble is a prodigious task [and] artist Sean Diediker has met the challenge with dignity and profundity…”
Thank you, Sean, for including us in such an exciting evening!
