My facebook page this week has been littered with teaser photos from a Los Angeles wedding we shot last weekend. I just can’t seem to stop myself from posting pics of this couple and their nuptials. I’m simply in love with the images.
Then again, when I think about it? I fall in love with every wedding I shoot. I can’t help myself. But it’s not love at first sight. I go into the event with butterflies as big as elephants in my stomach because I take my role as memory keeper extremely seriously, and no amount of preparation calms me. I email months in advance with the bride & groom & event planner, scout the locations, compile shotlists, clean the lenses & power-up the flashes… but as months of anticipation turn into mere hours of readiness, excited expectation pulses under my skin and I just can’t seem to relax.
That is… until I start clicking my shutter. Once I meet the bride at her getting-ready spot, the trepidation melts away, and I’m one with my camera (cheesy though that might sound) for the next 8 hours or so. Pure, unadulterated enthusiasm kicks out any anxiety, and I’m in my element — watching the day unfold through a series of frames; locking eyes with my partner V over a great shot; carefully crafting moments through composition, light, and shutter speed; and most of all, basking in the energy and emotion of a family’s (and family-to-be’s) very meaningful day.
We have another wedding this weekend — this time, at Sundance, which is a property I positively adore — and although I’m mid-butterflies-cum-elephants right now, I know it’s only a matter of time before I’m sinking into the thrill, magic, and beauty of two people uniting their lives.
