My Three Sons | Family Shoot

Hilarious.

A shoot with all dudes?  Three sons and their dad?  Hmmm.  Okay, let’s all acknowledge the truth: women usually hold the family shoots together.  The ladies ensure that everyone’s smiling (even when they don’t want to be there), dress the crew in their picture-perfect clothes, and generally keep everyone in-line for the time it takes to get through the session.  No girls in sight for this shoot?  I was slightly (okay… more than slightly) curious to see how this would go down.

Was there silliness?  Yes.  Pushing-shoving-jumping?  Yes.  Did the youngest brother end up in a heap on the ground with no one taking responsibility for how he got there?  Yes.  And it was awesome.  I was afraid everyone would tense in front of the camera and I’d feel awkward directing them… but there was none of that.  I just had to keep up, and it was seriously fun tracking the frivolity.

On another note, I really loved the camaraderie that these four share.  They genuinely have a great time together and it’s clear that they’re very close.  When I got to my desk after the shoot, I immediately reviewed the images and wished/hoped that I’d caught at least one shot — one moment, one feeling — that will transcend our goofy hour together and, as time rolls forward, linger in their memories.
